Sample Activity

This sample practice activity uses the Va Va Va Voom! creative problem solving process. It is not a step-by-step process, but rather a way to gather and collect information around a problem using Va - Fluency, Va - Flexibility, and Va - Originality. Then the Voom - Elaboration is used to develop and implement an action plan to address or solve the problem. For example,

"How can I become more successful?"

This question and the following exercise are an example of the Va-Va-Va-Voom practice activities on the CD designed to develop the four creative strengths. Four worksheets accompany this exercise. Print these sheets and use them to give congruity to your process. They will also help provide a paper and pencil list of your ideas to review at a later time during the creative process. The following rules of brainstorming are provided for you to use and refer to while working through the Va-Va-Va-Voom sections of the creative practice activity.

RULES OF BRAINSTORMING

Rule 1: "Don't rain on my parade." Every idea is valuable and must be written down.

Rule 2: " Take a walk on the wild side." Breakthrough ideas come from stretching to crazy, off-the-wall possibilities.

Rule 3: "The more, the merrier." The object is to produce as many ideas as possible.

Rule 4: "Lean on me." Combining new ideas leads to more new ideas.

Rule 5: "Focus, focus, focus." No discussion or questions are allowed during brainstorming. Ideation is the key.
